Among the exciting developments when Africa Defence Group (Pty) Ltd purchased 100% Truvelo’s shares back in 2020 is a long-range shooting team that was compiled in mid-2021. The team includes a shootist who placed 3rd at the King of 2 Mile event in South Africa, a King of 2 Mile in South Africa Champion, as well as an up-and-coming Truvelo gunsmith. Namely the men are as follows; Jaco Heyns (3rd Place King of 2 Mile in South Africa 2020), Ruan Ellis (King of 2 Mile in South Africa Champion 2020), and Zach Badenhorst (Truvelo Gunsmith) all excellent shots.
This year, Truvelo opened the playing field as these three men entered the annual Brothers Arms Precision Series held at Fort Mistake, Kwa-Zulu Natal. This series is a locally held and sponsored ELR competition. The first event was held in February with exciting results for this newly formed team.
The team placed 2nd, 3rd, and 5th overall at the first event. At the next event of the series in April, the team impressively scored 1st, 2nd, and 4th place overall. Jaco’s father, Jaco Snr, also represented the team at this event and managed to land in the Top 10. For the second-to-last event not all members were able to participate due to unforeseen circumstances. Nevertheless, the team still competed with Jaco Heyns Jr & Ruan Ellis taking the lead at 1st place overall. Individually these two men placed 1st and 3rd respectively at the June event.
With a full-fledged team once again, the October event was the only one left in the series for members to prove themselves and as a team keeping their eyes set on the victory lane. Victory it was indeed. The team placed first overall with Jaco Heyns Jr taking the lead at 1st place, shortly followed by Ruan Ellis at 3rd, Jaco Heyns Snr at 4th, and Zach Badenhorst at 5th, as well as Mariska Roos coming in at 6th (Heyns Jr’s Fiancé), who also represented the team throughout the series shooting her .338 CMS Lapua Rifle. She massively impressed as a female shootist taking 1st place as King or rather Queen of 2.5km (Major Class) in the last event of the series.
